Position:    Parish Nurse Coordinator

  

Placement in organizational Structure:

     A. Immediate Supervisor - Senior Pastor
     B. General Supervision
               1. Health Cabinet
               2. Church Council

 

 

 

Position Overview:

The parish nurse job position is designed to support the mission of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Health Cabinet by coordinating the parish nurse ministry.

 

 

Qualifications:

     A. Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Wisconsin
     B. Completion of a Parish Nurse or Parish Nurse Coordinator
          training course that has been endorsed by the International
          Parish Nurse Resource Center. (within the first 6 months of
          being hired)
     C. Desirable attributes may include, but are not limited to or
          restricted by:
               1. Community/Public Health experience
               2. Experience in medical/surgical nursing
               3. Knowledge of child/youth/adult learning principles
                   relating to health education
               4. Effective written and verbal communication skills

 

 

 

Salary:  $20 per hour

This is a part-time position averaging 15 hours per week
Continuing Education and mileage reimbursement as agreed through Health Cabinet

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

    A. Health Educator
               1. Promotes an understanding of the relationship
                   between faith, lifestyle and health as outlined by the
                   concept of holistic health
               2. Identifies needs and plans for educational programs to
                   include all ages
               3. Utilizes resources and members from the congregation
                   along with community resource persons to present
                   educational programs
     B. Personal Health Counselor
               1. Supports members of the congregation in times of
                   health-related concerns or crises
               2. Visits congregational members in the home, hospital or
                   alternative living settings and assesses the need for
                   follow-up
               3. Is available to pastoral staff and the congregation for
                   discussion of health concerns
     C. Teacher of Volunteers
               1. Identifies service opportunities for members of the
                   congregation
               2. Recruits and coordinates volunteers, as appropriate,
                   who will assist in meeting the mission of the Health
                   Cabinet
               3. Provides training to volunteers who will be
                   participating in congregational support opportunities
     D. Liaison with Community Health Organizations
               1. Informs and refers (with an individual's permission)
                   members of the congregation to community resources
                   as appropriate
               2. Provides information to and opportunities for the
                   congregation to respond to the needs of the
                   community
               3. Networks with community service providers for
                   sharing of health-related resources (e.g. Office on
                   Aging, Extension Office, Public Health Agency)
     E. Clarifier of the Close Relationship between Faith and Health
               1. Understands and communicates the relationship of
                   body, mind and spirit to health and wellness
               2. Seeks creative ways, using a spiritual perspective, to
                   enable the congregation to find healthy and realistic
                   lifestyle patterns
     F. Administration/Management
               1. Participates in staff meetings for coordinated care
                   need response with the Pastoral staff
               2. Maintains statistical data and documentation necessary
                   to give evidence of functions and activities
               3. Participates in and provides input for the budget
                   planning process for the Parish Nurse Ministry
               4. Participates in meetings with other Parish Nurses for
                   mutual support, continuing education and program
                   planning
               5. Participates in continuing education and personal
                   development opportunities
               6. Participates in self-evaluation and program evaluation,
                   to assure quality of practice
     G. General Responsibilities
               1. Be available for posted office hours and attend weekly
                   staff meetings
               2. Remain visible within the Bethany Congregation
               3. Support the pastoral staff in assuring that the needs of
                   members facing health issues are met
               4. Work jointly with the Health Cabinet in establishing
                   and implementing ministry programs
