Past Updates

August 1:

The call committee has received candidates from the Synod office. We are currently reviewing their paperwork and scheduling first interviews. We cannot share specific information with you at this time, but we can tell you that the candidates that we have received are impressive. They bring with them skills that were identified in the work of the transition team. Please continue to pray for our committee and for the candidates.

Pastor Peter and Council have agreed to extend his interim service through September 30, with possibility of longer by mutual agreement. Pastor Peter is not a candidate for the regularly called/settled pastor, as indicated in the original terms of interim service.

June 20:

If you know of a clergy person that you think would be a good candidate, you can email contact information and name of the candidate to or call Carol Hakala at 715-450-4031. This will be forwarded to the Synod and our representative will follow up with candidates. A summary of the MSP is available on the Call Committee’s web page. If you have questions or comments, you can contact any of the call committee members. Exciting times!

For more information, please email .

May 6:

The Call Committee and Council met with our Synod liaison on Monday, April 26 to review the Ministry Site Profile (MSP). The council offered input and voted to approve the profile. The MSP has been officially submitted to the Synod office and a description of the position will be posted on the ELCA website. The Synod will begin to look for candidates for us to consider that meet the leadership skills identified in the MSP.

April 15

The Call Committee is nearing completion of the first draft of the Ministry Site Profile. This week we are working on a section that highlights the most attractive activities and programs of Bethany. You can help us by sending us what it is that makes that list for you. Send responses to: .

The reports from the Transition Task Force (TTF) and the Congregational Assessment Tool (CAT) have proven valuable in formulating solid insight for Bethany and our Senior Pastor candidates through the MSP. Please consider attending the CrossTalk with the Council on April 18 at 10:45 a.m. (Please note the corrected date. There is only one meeting, not two.) and see the work that has been done as we move forward in this important time. The Call Committee will be attending, as this information is integral to their mission. The next step is to complete the final draft of the MSP and submit it to the church council. Once the MSP receives final approval, it is forwarded to the Synod. The Call Committee will continue to provide updates as we move forward and we invite you to contact any of the committee members during the call process. Your prayers and involvement are appreciated.
